With Returns there can differences in the product itself and that influences the way Returns systems should work. Specifically different products have different control models.

Some products are lot-controlled, serial-controlled, revision-controlled, or not controlled at all. For the most part, the OEMs usually deal with products that fit into one of the categories. For 3PLs, they may deal with all different controls at the same time because their suppliers have different control models. The level of complexity increases with tracking all different types of control.
