Journal transactions are used to batch transactions, review and then post it.

Journaled changes are written to the JRNL document type. A journal number is assigned by the application when automatic document numbering is active for this document type.

Changes are not made to on-hand balances until the journals are posted to complete the transactions

OPM has both pending and completed inventory transactions.
■ A pending transaction indicates an anticipated change to inventory.
■ A completed transaction indicates an actual change to inventory on-hand
balances.

For example, when a purchase order is received, a completed transaction is created to indicate that the ordered goods have actually been added to the inventory.

When you update a transaction from pending to completed, the pending
transaction is updated to indicate that it is no longer pending, and a new, completed transaction is created.

Pending transactions are stored in the ic_tran_pnd table. When they are completed, an indicator is set, but they remain in ic_tran_pnd. Transactions that are completed immediately, or through physical inventory, are stored in the ic_tran_cmp table.

I don't understand why a transaction would be held? I always wanted the inventory records updated immediately as material is moved. Else how do I know where it's at. Can anybody help me understand?

sometimes you need to check the material quality before accepting it in a warehouse...so you make the transaction and then the quality engineer approves it or (moves) it after his quality check to appear on the on hand

Journals are also used to maintain heirarchy . If ur manager wants to confirm whether u made the right entry or not he can use journals for checking and then do the posting .

Hi

The Basic Idea is whenever you use Create Immediate, the transactions are immediately POSTED to GL, since this option is given whenever in Raw materials stores, if there is an urgency of creating/adujusting the stock immediately by posting directly we can use this Immediate option. Whereas the normal procedure is enter into journal and then post the journal to GL.

Thanks
